Why Seven?

It's a question we get asked A LOT. For those that have known us from our retail beginnings as Audio 7 and our newer clients who have only known us as Seven Integration, again and again we are asked why seven? The truth is there is no clever, funny, or relevant reason. It just sounded right. But had we thought about it more there are many reasons why seven is a special number:

In a survey of 44,000 respondents asked simply what was their favourite number, number 7 was the winner by a substantial margin. The number 7 is central to so many aspects of our lives, our civilisation and religion, so here's a post celebrating the number seven.

Consider... there are 7 days, 7 seas, 7 brides, 7 sages, 7 sisters, 7 dwarves, 7 colours of the rainbow and 7 wonders of the ancient world. We love the number 7.

Culture

  • There are 7 Harry Potter books although book 7 was split into 2 films by Warner Bros in what could be described as nothing more than a money-spinning exercise. Harry was born in the seventh month and wore a number 7 on his quidditch robes.
  • There are seven basic musical notes: do, re, me, fa, so, la, te. In India they become sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, and ni.
  • Seven has the highest probability of occurring when you add the sum of two dice rolled.
  • And there are of course, 7 days of the week. (Not 8, as suggested by John, Paul, George and Ringo)

Science

  • The New 7 Wonders of The World are: The Great Wall of China, The Colosseum, The Taj Mahal, Petra, Machu Pichu, Christ Redeemer and Chicken Itza.
  • Talking of 7 wonders, there are also 7 Natural Wonders, 7 Wonders of the Underwater World, 7 Wonders of the Industrial World and 7 Wonders of the Solar System plus various “New Wonders” all numbering 7.
  • White light is made up of 7 colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet – which are also the seven colours of the rainbow.
  • Neutral pH between acidity and alkalinity is seven.
  • The number of celestial bodies visible to the naked eye is seven. They include the Sun, the Moon, and the five planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Earth is a celestial body but since we are on it, for us, it is not visible in the sky!

Religion

  • God rested on the seventh day according to the Christian Old Testament and the Jewish Torah.
  • Roman Catholics give special emphasis to the number seven, having seven sacraments and seven deadly sins.
  • Buddha is said to have walked 7 steps at his birth.
  • In Islamic tradition 7 symbolises infinity. And in Hinduism the cycle of life goes through 7 stages before the soul attains moksha (salvation).

As a global population, we are drawn to the number number 7. So whether it was divine influence, scientific illumination or just plain old gut feel, Audio 7 and now Seven Integration caries positive omens that we just can’t shake.
